The british music industry needed to be pushed forward. So, the New Musical Express magazine AKA NME, has made a huge marketing effort to turn this Shefield band in the coolest band on earth. I use to read this magazine every week and it’s quite dissapointing to read the same shit issue after issue: “Alex Turner (vocalist) the coolest guy around the globe” “Whatever people says… is the 5th best album on the british pop history” These sentences make me wonder what John Lenon would say if he could hear underground. After reading this, and with no idea about how their music is you could think that this band is a precocked invention of the musical industry. You may be right. That is what is thought too. After listening to “Whatever people thinks…” I got to a conclusion. The album’s name goes straight to the point. They are something else, not just marketing. Some songs sound fresh like the single ‘I bet you look good on the dancefloor’, ‘Dancing shoes’ ‘When the sun goes down’ ‘Fake tales of San Francisco’… The rest of the Lp is not that good. Despite this crapy songs, the artic monkeys’ debut is a must have CD not the best band ever, though.
